Greater Houston Transportation Company Announces Scholarship Program

 

Money Given To Help Students Realize Their Dreams

 

Houston (April 21, 2005) – Greater Houston Transportation Company and its affiliated companies, Houston’s only computer-dispatched taxi fleet, today announced that it has created a scholarship program for children of its independent contractor drivers and staff at Yellow Cab Houston, Taxis Fiesta and United Cab.

“Ten scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded to children of independent contractor drivers or employees of our companies on May 16, 2005,” said Raymond Turner of Yellow Cab. “Education is the key to a young person’s future and we hope this is the beginning of a long tradition of support for the education of the children of our independent contractors and employees.”

 The scholarships to be awarded by Greater Houston Transportation Company may be used for college or for training at a technical school. To be eligible, at least one parent must be an independent contractor driver in good standing with six months of current tenure at Yellow Cab, Taxis Fiesta or United Cab, or be an employee of one of these companies. The student applicants must write a 2,000 word essay on why the scholarship would be important to them and provide their high school transcripts.

The scholarship applicants will be judged by a special committee comprised of executives of Greater Houston Transportation Company. Further, the applicants will be judged based on their essay entry and on their financial need.

In addition, the ten scholarship recipients will also be given the opportunity to work as summer interns in the sales and marketing departments.
