HOUSTON (September 26, 2006) – Yellow Cab announced today that it has made a $10,000 donation to the athletic department of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School, one of Houston’s oldest parochial schools. The school opened its doors in Houston’s historic Fifth Ward in 1931.
Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, provides pre-school through eighth grade students of all faiths a quality education along with a commitment to Christian values, academic excellence and public service.
“We are blessed to have such a generous supporter in Yellow Cab,” said school principal Sister Marie deMontfort Breaux. “Our students will now have access to athletic equipment and uniforms that would not be available to them otherwise.”
“School athletic programs have a tremendous impact on students’ physical and emotional well-being,” said Robert Rugg, President of Yellow Cab. “Participation in school athletics fosters school pride and self-esteem. We are proud to play a part in helping this community institution provide area youth with an enhanced sports program.”
Yellow Cab made the donation through its Yellow Cab Cares program, which provides charitable dollars, taxi advertising, employee volunteer time and other resources to community organizations. Along with its Yellow Cab Cares program, Yellow Cab’s community involvement also includes providing student scholarships, mentoring partnerships with local schools, underwriting local youth athletic activities and participation in numerous local community events.
