YELLOW CAB HOUSTON OPENS DOORS TO HURRICANE KATRINA SURVIVORS

Local Cab Company Provides Job Opportunities for Evacuees

HOUSTON (Oct. 12, 2005) – Yellow Cab Houston, Houston’s leading taxi fleet, recently expanded its outreach to Hurricane Katrina survivors by offering employment within its communications and maintenance departments, as well as providing independent contractor opportunities for former New Orleans taxi drivers. To date, Yellow Cab Houston has added 12 new members to its Houston team.

“Considering everything that’s happened to our neighbors in Louisiana the past few weeks, we wanted to provide these people with a chance to begin moving forward with their lives and an opportunity to start rebuilding,” said Raymond Turner, president of Texas Taxi, the parent company of Yellow Cab Houston.  “Employment is a crucial factor as Hurricane Katrina survivors begin to move forward and support themselves and their families again.”

One of Yellow Cab’s newest independent contract drivers, Hossam Aboulfoud, a former New Orleans taxi driver, understands and appreciates what Yellow Cab Houston is offering and is taking advantage of the opportunity.

“What Yellow Cab has provided for me and my family is the chance to start over,” said Aboulfoud. “The amount of support we’ve received from the Houston community has been overwhelming, and just being able to work again gives me a sense of pride and hope that we’ll regain a sense of normalcy in our lives very soon.”

In addition to providing employment and business opportunities, Yellow Cab Houston recently hosted a Relief Fund Drive, collecting and distributing essential items to various families in need ranging from food and clothes to personal hygiene products and everyday necessities.

Yellow Cab Houston has also provided taxi vouchers to several agencies and organizations assisting Katrina survivors, including the City of Houston, the American Red Cross, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the Harris County Housing Authority, the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
