HISD RECIEVES DONATION FROM
YELLOW
CAB HOUSTON AND TAXIS FIESTA

HOUSTON (Nov. 10, 2005) – Yellow Cab Houston, Houston’s only computer-dispatched taxi fleet, along with its sister company, Taxis Fiesta, recently presented a $46,799 donation to Cynthia Wilson, regional superintendent of the North region, on behalf of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). The presentation took place on Oct. 27, 2005 at the Hattie Mae White Administrative building, located at 3830 Richmond Avenue.

“We are proud to contribute to the education of Houston’s youth and to help support HISD’s important work in our community,” said Raymond Turner, president of Texas Taxi, the parent company of Yellow Cab Houston and Taxis Fiesta.

Along with Turner, Robert Rugg, president of Yellow Cab Houston, and Roman Martinez, president of Taxis Fiesta, and Rosario Spinoso, marketing coordinator, also participated in the check presentation.  From HISD, along with Wilson, Eileen Egan, executive director of development, Karen Cotton, director of parent engagement, and Gwen Samples, community partnership coordinator, accepted the check on behalf of HISD.

“We are very glad to work with Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta,” said Wilson.  “These companies’ generous support will go a long way in helping children in Houston learn about computers and how to work with them.”

The money will go to the HISD Foundation, which generates private support for district-wide or school-specific priority initiatives and programs such as underwriting the PSAT for all HISD tenth-graders, scholarships for professional growth opportunities for classroom teachers, and other initiatives that enhance the learning environment.

This donation comes as part of Yellow Cab/Taxis Fiesta Cares, a program that provides charitable dollars, taxi cab advertising, employee volunteer time and other resources, to local charities and companies.

In addition to the HISD Foundation donation, Yellow Cab Houston’s vast community involvement ranges from working with local charities and events, including the Houston Police Foundation, Child Advocates, Inc., the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Spaulding Agency for Children and Fiestas Patrias. Yellow Cab/Taxis Fiesta Cares has also created programs such as annual scholarships, mentoring partnerships with local schools, underwriting local youth athletic events and building community awareness campaigns concerning drinking and driving.
