Houston (October 28, 2008) – The Taxicab Limousine and Paratransit Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to longtime Houston Yellow Cab executive Rudolph Herbert Bruhns at the association’s annual convention, held in Tampa, Florida, October 27 – 30. Dr. Afsa Meredith Bruhns accepted the award on her husband’s behalf.

“Rudy Bruhns was an invaluable resource to TLPA and its members. He was widely known among taxi fleet operators for his expertise in every aspect of the taxi business,” said Al LaGasse, TLPA Chief Executive Officer.  “He had a real knack for simplifying complex information and was generous about sharing his counsel with others.”

Bruhns began working in the taxi industry in 1957 at Yellow Cab Company of San Francisco. He joined Greater Houston Transportation Company as General Manager in 1977, where he oversaw tremendous growth in the fleet. He went on to serve as the Executive Vice President of Administration for the parent company from 1998 until the time of his death on September 15, 2008.

"Rudy had a vast wealth of knowledge about the issues facing our industry,” said Rick Hewatt, incoming president of the TLPA. “During his many years in the taxi business, he earned a reputation as an innovative problem solver. Rudy was respected and admired by all."
